SSB Post 45 - Smooth Sailing

Friday, 12/3/2010

We left Bock Pass around 5 PM in the hopes that we'd catch some fish as the sunset. Unfortunately, we only caught a barracuda. So, Paul decided to leave the lines out all night.

Elli was thinking & actually hoping (just to have the experience) that she might get seasick, but the winds were so light and the seas so smooth that it didn't seem likely. We split up the night into shifts. It sure was nice to have 6 of us on board. It meant only three hours shifts, & they were not lonely shifts since there were two of us per shift. Quite different from the 4 hour individual shifts.

It was smooth sailing through the night, & Geoff, TC, & I were the ones who were awake as we arrived at Bigej Pass around 8 AM. After going through the pass, sailing up to the north point of Bigej, and jibing to go back to south Bigej (so the guys could get in surf), we pulled in the lines to find a squid attached to one of them. We must have gone through a school & snagged him. Unfortunately, some other sea creature seems to have gobbled up the head of the squid - the part that is most delicious.

We anchored at the south end of Bigej. Paul, TC, Timo, & Geoff took advantage of our location close to the waves. Geoff caught his biggest wave yet!

We spent the rest of the day snorkeling, sleeping, reading, or eating. Good times.

We head back to Kwajalein tomorrow. Hopefully everyone's 480s went through so that they can stay on island.
